Another difference between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S: it looks like Apple put a more energy efficient 3G chip into the iPhone 4S. Go to Settings>Network and have a look. On my iPhone 4 (with iOS 4 or iOS 5) I see an option „Enable 3G“ and an option „Cellular Data“. Most of the time I used to switch „Cellular Data“ on and „Enable 3G“ off so that the iPhone used Edge. That was totally sufficient for eMails and most other internet stuff on the go in WiFi-less regions.
On my iPhone 4S (iOS 5) there’s no option for enabling 3G anymore. It’s just „Cellular Data“. So this enables Edge and 3G altogether. And there’s no information about possibly decreased battery life anymore. Yay! I’ll test that in the next couple of weeks.
